2005 年美国的纽奥尔良市遭受飓风重创几至废城，一封收集该城残破景象图文件的电子邮件被网友们四处转寄，其中的背景歌曲就是"日升之屋"，因为这首歌曲的故事就发生在纽奥尔良。
这首大家耳熟能详的老歌"House of the rising sun"，演唱版本非常多，原本是一首十九世纪末的黑人民歌，1937 年在肯塔基州被采集到，原始曲调据说颇接近黑人老歌手Leadbelly 的" Black betty "，盲人民歌手Doc Watson 唱过蓝调风格的版本，歌名为"Rising sun blues "。后来在美国各地民歌手之间口耳相传，这首歌逐渐风行起来。民谣歌后Joan Baez 琼拜雅在1960 年的首张专辑唱过，她唱的版本是学自波士顿大学同学Debbie Green；民谣摇滚之父Bob Dylan 巴布狄伦1962 年也灌唱过这首歌曲。
此歌最成功的版本乃是1964 年蓝调摇滚风格的 The Animals 动物合唱团唱出这首歌的摇滚版，主唱Eric Burdon 独特的嗓音和键盘手Alan Price 电子琴的独奏，使这首歌仿佛是找到了最适合它的外衣，该年九月在英美两地均登上排行冠军，进而风行全球。这首歌内容描述黑人贫民区的孩子为了讨生活而误入歧途，时至今日，依然是大部分黑人小孩一生的写照。有人考据，" 日升之屋"是真实存在于纽奥尔良，它是位于该城French Quarter 法国胡同西北方的风化区Storyville 里面的一家妓院。

“动物”乐队是60年代初兴起于英国的节奏布鲁斯舞台上的最重要的乐队之一。在英国摇滚乐“入侵”美国的第一次浪潮中，“动物”乐队是仅次于“滚石”乐队的以节奏布鲁斯为基础的乐队。他们所处的年代正是所谓的“英国入侵”时代，众多来自英国的乐队占据了美国的音乐舞台。在这次改变了美国摇滚音乐格局，甚至改变了珍格格摇滚音乐发展走向的运动中，“动物”乐队一直是一股重要的力量。
